A new pottery studio has opened in South Kensington, bringing ceramics classes, private lessons and workspace for makers to Astwood Mews.
Kensington Pottery Ltd. opened on 25 June 2026, coinciding with the Kensington + Chelsea Art Week Fringe. The studio is based in a former stable at 3 Astwood Mews and has been created as a dedicated space for pottery, sculpture and ceramics teaching.
The launch included a private view for early supporters, followed by an open weekend for local residents and visitors. Guests were able to view studio-made stoneware and sculptural pieces, meet the teaching team and try introductory wheel-throwing sessions.
Founder Kim Karmozyn said the aim was to create a calm and focused environment for ceramicists and artists.
“Our aim was to create a calm space where makers can come to design, throw and form without the distractions of the busy studio,” she said. “We wanted an oasis that reflects the serenity of a successful pot, where ceramicists and artists can immerse themselves in their work.
“The mews is the perfect location and local neighbours are thrilled to welcome us. It’s been fabulous to have so much support and encouragement.”
Karmozyn has more than 20 years’ experience making and exhibiting work in London and is a member of the Society of Fulham Artists and Potters. Her background also includes architectural training at Wellesley College, MIT, the University of Westminster and the Bartlett School of Architecture at UCL.
The studio’s summer programme includes 90-minute wheel-throwing taster sessions, beginner masterclasses, hand-building classes, private lessons and intermediate Friday classes for those with some experience.
The classes are aimed at a range of abilities, from first-time participants to people looking to develop more technical skills such as throwing, turning, glazing, making lidded vessels and creating handles or spouts.
As well as running classes, Kensington Pottery will also operate as a members’ workspace for more experienced potters looking for studio access in the area.
